At Starbase 133, Dr Beverly Crusher is reunited with her ageing mentor, Dr Dalen Quaice. They trade stories of their deceased partners. After Crusher views Wesley’s failed warp field experiment, the stories of missing loved ones seem prophetic when she finds that Dr Quaice has vanished. The mystery deepens as more and more members of the crew also vanish, and the crew that remain have no memory of their recently departed shipmates.

Wow, a rare Crusher episode! She’s on camera almost all the time and does a good job of acting in a somewhat difficult and monotonous role. The concept of alternative reality has been explored numerous times on Trek and has been more effective and fun on many of those occasions. This one is a little too thinly plotted to be stretched to 42 minutes.
Wesley Crusher’s acting is okay, but his lack of facial expression and dead eyes make him seem like a Stepford Ensign.
I’ve got to praise the person in charge of saving money for production costs. Picard orders "Tea…Earl Grey…Hot" from the replicator, then removes the cup. But they cleverly hid the replicator around the corner, so all they had to put in was the sound effect – they didn’t have to visually materialize it.
Nits
During Beverly’s chat with Picard, the intelligent doors once again know when not to open. She turns to leave and walks up to the doors, but they remain closed, somehow sensing that she was about to turn around and plead with him to take the ship back to Starbase 133.
Why isn’t Wesley trying this obviously dangerous and complicated experiment on the holodeck first?
