6.03 Man of the People

Rating: 2.5

The Enterprise transports Alkar, a skilled negotiator traveling with his ageing mother. When his mother dies, Alkar turns to Counselor Troi, seemingly for comfort, but in actuality to use her as a vessel to dump his destructive thoughts – even if it means this will kill her.

Comments

It’s Marina Sirtis’ episode; she gets to play part of it as a sexy, aggressive, sometimes angry siren, and the other part in old age makeup. She’s not bad, and she looks good.

Nits

Alkar, upon finding that Troi is dead, asks his female assistant to wait for him in his quarters. Moments later, when Alkar leaves, Picard orders Worf to wait outside ‘her’ quarters. Worf, who must know when not to follow orders, goes directly to Alkar’s quarters.

Memorable Moments

Quotable Quotes

"You cannot explain away a wantonly immoral act because you think it is connected to some higher purpose!"
- Picard to Alkar

"Will!"
- Troi’s first word after being brought back to life

Troi: Thanks for sticking by me.
Riker: I always will…even when you’re old and gray.
