When the Enterprise becomes trapped within a cluster of two dimensional entities, they are dragged toward a projected fatal encounter with a cosmic string…and Deanna loses her empathic abilities.

Comments

Apparently the theme early this season was to have episodes focusing on some of the more minor characters, like Dr Crusher and Deanna Troi. This is Deanna’s episode, and she carries it well.

Nits

It is stated that the entities are ‘virtually without height’, but is that truly two dimensional? They must have some height, or they would not be detectable at all. And if they have some height, they are not two-dimensional.

Memorable Moments

•    Despite the fact that I didn’t think this was a great episode, when Deanna gets her powers back, I did shed a tear. Pretty good acting will do that to me.

Troi: Data, don’t you see? We’ve been thinking in three dimensions. We have to get two dimensional!

(This would be one of the rare times that Troi could confuse Data, unless he thought she was making a pass).
