While Picard attempts to recover from his Borg experience by returning to his boyhood home in France, Worf is visited on board the Enterprise by his human parents, and Beverly Crusher gives Wesley a holographic recording made by his father at Wesley’s birth.
Comments
While this would not be one of the most exciting episodes, it does nicely establish and flesh out three of the main characters using the theme of ‘family’.
Nits
Following in a long tradition of timeless meetings, when Louie visits to tell Picard about a meeting he has set up regarding the Atlantis project, he says the meeting is ‘tomorrow morning’. Later, after Picard agrees to attend the meeting, Louie says, "See you tomorrow morning’. So what time is the meeting? What time should Picard be ready? Where are they meeting? It must be a television show meeting; they rarely occur at any exact time.
I love this one: In one scene, Picard and Robert are arguing. They are walking toward the camera perspective along a row of hedges. As the scene progresses, if you look in the foreground, you can see branches from the hedges shake as the cameraman or camera hits them!
Memorable Moments
• I love watching Picard and Robert in a good mudfight, although why couldn’t Beverly Crusher and Deanna Troi get really angry at each other sometimes?
Quotable Quotes
Picard: If you wish to believe that my going home is a direct result of being captured by the Borg, be my guest.
Troi: Is that what you think?
Picard: I hate it when you do that.
"There’s something I want to ask you – how come you never gave him prune juice?" – Guinan’s unusual question to Worf’s parents, and it only makes sense if you watched the episode Yesterday’s Enterprise and knew that Worf considers prune juice to be "A Warrior’s drink!".
"I have all the specs and diagrams [for the Enterprise] at home." Mr. Roshenko, Worf’s father, the original Trekker
