2.19 Manhunt

Rating: 2

The Enterprise carries a number of delegates to a peace convention, including two Antidean delegates in stasis, and Lwaxana Troi (Deanna’s mother), who is looking for a husband and is in a period of her mid-life called ‘the phase’, where Betazoid sexual desire quadruples.

Comments

Majel Barrett (Lwaxana Troi) adds a lot of life and humor to this episode. But most of it feels like a time waster, especially Picard’s long holodeck sequence.

Nits

Lucky Dixon Hill, when he turns the radio on, it happens to be right at the start of a song, not in the middle or at the end. And, of course, the bigger nit – the radio begins playing almost immediately – radios of that time had tubes and took about 20 seconds to warm up before playing.

When Dixon Hill resumes the program to unfreeze Madeline and speak to her, why doesn’t the guy with the machine gun come out of the other room and start shooting at him again?

Picard says, "Another round", and the bartender pours drinks for everyone, including Riker and Data, who have not had a drink yet – how does the bartender know what they want?

On the holodeck, Riker addresses Dixon Hill (Picard) as ‘Captain’, and Picard corrects him, with "Call me Dix." Yet, about 30 seconds later, Riker addresses him as ‘Captain’ again!

Supposedly, the Antideans used Ultritium in their robes to mask explosives from the transporter. But remember, the transporter takes things completely apart at the molecular level and puts them back together again. You can’t hide anything from the transporter, or you’ll lose it.

Memorable Moments

•    "Let’s Get Away From It All" is the very fitting song playing on Dixon Hill’s radio – it also describes his reason for being there.

Quotable Quotes

"What a handsome race."
– Worf’s unique opinion of the Antideans

Picard: Data you will never know how much I owe you for that.
Data: Indeed, Captain. I know many more interesting anecdotes, sir. For example-
Picard: Data.
Data: Sir?
Picard: Later.
Data: Yes, sir.

Lwaxana: Now that’s more like it. Your thoughts, they’re primal, savage – I like that in a man.
Worf: I am not a man.

"Jean-Luc! Shame on you for thinking such a thing!"
– Lwaxana’s final line as she beams away
