2.20 The Emissary

Rating: 3.5

A Klingon battle cruiser, sent off into space 75 years ago with its crew in stasis, is about to re-emerge from sleep in the midst of a number of defenseless Federation outposts. A half-Klingon, half-human female named K’Ehleyr, who has a ‘history’ with Worf, joins the Enterprise to help solve the problem.

Comments

K’Ehleyr is a predecessor to the half-Klingon, half-human B’elanna Torres of VOY. It made me wonder whether Torres couldn’t have dealt a bit better with her inner conflict from reading some self-help books written by and for these unique conflicted beings.

This is not really a nit, but the Klingons must realize that there are limited advantages to mothballing a battle cruiser for 75 years, since when it re-emerges, its technology will be, for the most part, outdated.

Nits

How can a small probe travel at Warp 9 unless it has a big engine?

How can a ship travel for 75 years with its entire crew in stasis without either hitting a planet, needing maintenance or fuel, or being captured by a warring or profit-driven alien species?

It’s difficult to tell that Worf and K’Ehleyr have had sex during the break between scenes, since they are fully clothed before and after the break.

Memorable Moments

•    The holodeck scene with Worf and K’Ehleyr is very good. I like the purple and black stretchy suit that K’Ehleyr is wearing, I like the fighting, and I like the sniffing.

Quotable Quotes

"I don’t bite. Well, that’s wrong – I do bite." – K’Ehleyr to Worf

K’Ehleyr (after defeating three formidable opponents): It’s not much of a program.
Worf: Computer…level two.

Riker: How did you like command?
Worf: Comfortable chair.
