What Riker has to do to Yuta is somewhat similar to what Kirk had to do to Edith Keeler in the TOS episode City on the Edge of Forever.

At the Gatherer encampment in the Hirami Cluster, what was the point of Riker making silent hand signals to direct the away team, when just a few seconds later, Geordi starts talking really loudly?

Data finds a picture of the last clan member murdered. In the background, a woman’s face is partially obscured; only one eye is showing. Data asks the computer to extrapolate, and the computer forms the remainder of the face. How can the computer extrapolate what a person’s nose looks like based on one eye?

When Riker is continually pumping phaser shots into Yuta, Picard (and others) are behind Yuta, in very dangerous positions should Yuta move or Riker miss. And on this point, why doesn’t Riker move to get between Yuta and Chorgon, rather than staying where he is and relying on his phaser to stop her? If he had done this, he wouldn’t have had to necessarily kill her – he could have just restrained her.
